So here are some of the biggest problems we encountered during our hands-on testing.
No Dedicated Servers or Virtual Private Servers (VPS): If you’re looking for a dedicated server or VPS, you won’t find it with SiteGround. However, they do have some excellent cloud hosting options that might be a better fit for your needs.
Higher Renewal Rates: A monthly fee of $2.49 for September 2022 is advertised on SiteGround’s website for their cheapest plan – StartUp. This plan was $3.99 until some time ago, which is 80 percent off. This way, this company has come close to its competitors with a very affordable price. However, there is a problem. Almost all the web hosts we’ve reviewed so far use the same tactic. They suit you with a low launch price, but double (or even triple) the price during the renewal period. For example, the current monthly fee of $2.49 jumps to a whopping $12.99 (which was $14.99) upon renewal. Other SiteGround plans go for $22.99 and $34.99 per month, respectively.
The best solution for this is to lock in as much space as possible to take advantage of that lower rate for as long as possible. Although the prices are reasonable, you will be paying a few dollars more than other companies for entry-level hosting. SiteGround is not a discount hosting company, but in most cases, the extra cost is worth it.
Limited Cheap Plans: SiteGround’s pricing for their lowest plan is comparable to competitors, so it looks like a good deal at first glance. However, the drawings in this plan do not match perfectly. For example, you only get a website and 10GB of web space to handle up to 10,000 visitors per month. This scheme also provides unlimited traffic (or unlimited bandwidth).
